Prior to my trip to Asia I went to Passport Health Travel Clinic NY/LI to get a series of immunizations and medications in order to minimize my risk of the transmission of any viruses and foreign agents some of which can have long term life changing side effects. I would prefer to spend the extra money compared to being choppered out of the bush to a hospital, battle malaria or worse. Some people call that being prepared while others say that being over prepared is crazy or paranoid, but I would rather have the piece of mind.
Passport Health is the largest chain of medical clinics in the United States. They have over 240 locations that specialize in servicing all of your travel related medical needs. After completing an online form about my trip and a short discussion on the phone with one of the nurses I went into their office for a consultation with a nurse. She provided me a detailed packet of travel information about the health risks in each of the countries I would be spending time in. I found large portions of the material relevant and useful for the trip. We then discussed my vaccination history and proceeded from there. I got a series of shots over the course of a few weeks. (Keep in mind that many immunizations require a series of boosters over the course of a few weeks or possibly months for maximum effectiveness.) I also received malaria medication and a number of other prescriptions. I was very pleased with my experience at Passport Health at the Roslyn Heights office. The nurse also told me about the monthly photo contest and handed me a flyer.
I’m glad she did, because I recently won first place in the local monthly travel photo contest from Passport Health Travel Clinic NY/LI. The photograph was taken in July at the Red Sand Dunes, Mui Ne, Vietnam at sunset. The photograph was taken using an iPhone 4s and was left untouched with the exception of the watermark. I submitted the photograph in late July. In mid October I received a letter in the mail from Passport Health NY/LI with a congratulatory note and $50 Starbucks gift card. I like coffee. I like free coffee even more! Thanks Passport Health NY/LI!
